SMAC
Portage Central, and Portage Northern Flex thier muscles outside of their new division. Taking a quick look at the SMAC. Portage Central didn't shock anyone with last nights performance, but they did impress. Spencer Munsun is the real deal, 14 carries 190 yards and 2 TD's, a powerful and tough running back, showed no slowing down after a great season a year ago, he's joined in the backfield by Brian Wise 16 carries 131 yards and 2 TD's.
Potage Northern was great with a huge win over Lumin Christi. Livingston was solid completing 10 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown. Their running game came up big to, with the Huchins brothers, Ben rushed for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Antoinio had 68 and 2 touchdowns.
Norrix and Central out of Kalamazoo still have a way's to go. Central made a lot of mistakes but have a sophomore quarterback named Brandon Delk who is a great athlete and will do some good things this season.
Rounding out the west division Niles and Lakeshore won their games, putting them at the top along with the Portage schools. So that would make four teams in the east division unbeaten after week one, Marshal, BC Central, Harper Creek, and BC Lakeview. Speaking of Battle Creek Schools they went unbeaten in week one.
KVA
Constantine and Kalamazoo Christian Fell, but what about Schoolcraft and BC Pennfield? Dominating performances by those two schools puts them in the top of the pack along with Maple Valley, Olivet and Delton. That league has been flipped upside down. And how about Evan Stoddard 37 carries for 225 yards, he is the best back in the KVA until proven otherwise.
Wolverine
The best game of the weekend came out of this conference, between Otsego and Gull lake. Otsego won it 21 to 19, talk about rising from the ashes Otsego has become a power house in this conference. Gull Made a great effort but came up short on a two point conversion to tied the game. Taylor Shultz put up 178 yards through the air for Gull Lake, and Otsego's Ray Scaff answered with 130. Three Rivers is still the team to beat, Dowagiac got through the first week, Paw Paw and Vicsburg also got wins in week one. Three Rivers Aron Spence had 248 yards passing, he may be one of the best quarterbacks in the state. Adom Tustin of Plainwell and Julian Butler of Vicksburg lead all runners with 140 yards.
SAC
Only one team in the SAC north escaped the start of the season and that was Saugatuck. Everyone ells lost. In the south, Lawton, Marcellus, Lawrence and Hartford were all winners. Lawton beat Fennville by one point, after a 93 yard touchdown pass from Kyle Brigham to Blake Henderson. Decatur lost a tough out of conference game against Berrien Springs 29 to 22.
Stay tuned more to come.
